Shows & Music

Acrylic

I have always enjoyed the versatility of acrylic and the deep richness of its colours, especially in painting the rugged Canadian sea-coast.  There is nothing pastel-y or wishy-washy about the Atlantic seaboard.  Acrylic lends itself to thick textures or thin glazes.  It dries flat rather than glossy – but I like the matte look.  It also dries quickly so you can “get on with it” – until you wish it didn’t dry so fast so you could rework it.  But (like apps on your phone) there’s a medium for that!

Watercolour

It has taken me awhile to understand the many things that watercolour can do.  It was a struggle – there seemed to be so many “rules”, but it is a lot more forgiving than it is given credit for.  (And I’ve never been much for rules.)  Now my challenge is being looser with it, and giving the paint a chance to surprise me.

Photographs

Wherever I go, I find myself just naturally watching for – and finding! – the beautiful, the unexpected, the quirky.  In seeing some of my photographs gathered here in one place, I realize that each one is a story.  I hope you enjoy the telling.

Shows & Music

A look at some of the projects and people I have been lucky enough to work with over the years.  From writing to administering, the range is wide!

" Deeply Inspirational "

Whether lake, river or ocean, water is deeply inspirational to me.  The serene lakes of “cottage country” where I grew up and particularly White Head, Nova Scotia with its sea-lashed coast.  My genealogy and history work centres on these locales and a lot of my paintings, too.
